I love reading your post! You help me to understand the yearning and sadness that I sometimes see in my sons face. Even though I tell him "not to let anyone define life" for him, he still wishes things were different. Not disappointed in your news at all! Well done on overcoming your fear! Also, reading this made me appreciate every progress my 14 year old daughter with Asbergers does when it comes to cooking as for some while I have worried about her being able to be independent as an adult. But she is slowly getting there, and one step at a time will make sure she gets there. :-)

I have Asperger's myself and I never experienced it as being a curse. When I tell about it, a lot of people go 'aww, poor you', but that's unneccessary. Of course, sometimes it's hard, but isn't anything in life? Sometimes it's a blessing too. And remember: I'm a person on the spectrum myself, I'm not just saying this. This is how I truly feel about it. If I could cure Autism, I would deny it, since I feel Autism has made me who I am.

Congratulations! :D Within the anime/manga community, noodles are a big thing, so it's stocked up all the time here at home. Different kinds too. One day we'll eat some noodles together. ;) By the way, having a water boiler can be a great thing when making noodles. Boil water in it, pour it in the cup and wait.

Now you have learned to boil water, the next step can maybe be to put in some pasta. Pasta just needs to be in for 10 minutes and needs a stir once in a while.
To avoid sticking, put it all in a strainer (so the water can drain away), cool it off with a bit of water from the tap, then mix some oil (think a small spoon full...) through it.
If this is too difficult for now, simply try boiling pasta. Having it stick doesn't make it less tasty.

my mom chose the 'don't tell' side. As a person who had just learned about asperger's syndrome during a time when there was little awareness of it, she did the best she could to handle the situation and was well-intentioned From my experience, however, I did not know what was normal or acceptable and it seemed that i couldn't do anything right. that left me with a sinking feeling of "whats wrong with me?" and the worldview that there are people good things happen to and people who are just destined to get the short end of the stick in life and I was the latter. It would have been helpful for me to understand why I wasn't like my neurotypical peers and given me a headstart on learning how to find value in being different.

Hi! My son is 15 years old and we finally realized last year that he has Asperger's. It's so bittersweet to have the diagnosis. We finally know what we're dealing with and that he's really not so "different" he is actually extraordinary. I've been following your blog but this is the first video I've seen of you and I want you say you give me such hope for my son. Glad you're home. Wish you were leaving tomorrow for another journey. The future holds many more journeys of a lifetime. The destinations will be to places you've never imagined, to people you'll never see again, and after each one you will have been changed. You are spreading the "virus of hope." There is no cure for hope. There is no antidote for hope. There is only the continued contamination of the world that will spread from you, to those who hear you, to those who here them. In time the "virus of hope" will become a pandemic around the world. Keep a suitcase packed because you'll never know when God will send you on another massive journey of hope to infect the world.
